Preparation Before Installation
Tools needed: Adjustable wrench, PTFE tape (plumber's tape), dry cloth/small catch basin
Safety precautions: Unplug the water heater, close the cold water inlet valve, and open any hot water tap to drain residual water from the pipes
Check components: Verify that the filter thread size (1/2" or 3/4") matches the water heater's inlet and ensure the sealing ring is intact and undamaged
Determine Installation Location and Direction
Installation location: The filter must be installed in-line *before* the water heater's cold water inlet (marked in blue); it must never be installed on the hot water outlet pipe
Water flow direction: Identify the arrow on the filter body; the arrow must point toward the water heater inlet-installing it backward will render the filtration ineffective
Drain port orientation: For models with a drain port, position the port facing vertically downward to facilitate future backwashing and draining
Apply PTFE Tape
Evenly wrap PTFE tape 10–15 times in a *clockwise* direction around the threaded connections at both ends of the filter, ensuring all threads are fully covered
Gently press down the end of the tape to secure it, preventing it from being scraped off by the threads during installation, which could cause leaks at the connection
