The key to routine washing machine filter maintenance lies in regular, proper cleaning and daily clog prevention; this can reduce drainage-related blockages by 76% and extend the machine's lifespan.

Safety Precautions Before Cleaning
Unplug the power cord completely and wait 30 seconds for internal capacitors to discharge, eliminating risks from residual electricity.
Place a dry towel beneath the filter and prepare a shallow basin to catch the 150–300ml of residual water, preventing floor spills.

Filter Locations by Model Type
Table
Washing Machine Type | Filter Location | Opening Method
Impeller (Top-load) | Behind the cover at the bottom-right front | Unscrew with a coin or press the release latch
Drum (Front-load) | Behind the small panel at the bottom-right front | Turn knob 1/4 turn counter-clockwise and pull out
Inlet Valve Mesh | Where the inlet hose connects to the machine | Unscrew the nut counter-clockwise and pull out
Wall-mounted | Bottom of the unit or front access panel | Gently pry open the cover and remove the assembly

Standard Cleaning Steps
After opening the cover, pull out the drain hose to empty residual water, then unscrew the filter unit counter-clockwise.
Gently brush the mesh in one direction with a soft-bristled toothbrush to remove hair, lint, coins, and other debris; soak stubborn stains in 40°C warm water with neutral detergent for 5 minutes to soften them.
Manually rotate the drain pump impeller located behind the filter to clear any jammed foreign objects, ensuring it spins freely without abnormal noise.
Rinse clean and air-dry in a cool, ventilated area for 2 hours; do not expose to direct sunlight or use a hair dryer's hot air, as this may warp the mesh.
Align the filter with the guide slot, push it in vertically, and tighten clockwise until you hear a "click"; ensure the sealing ring is flat and properly seated before closing the panel.

Maintenance Frequency
For typical households, clean once every 1–2 months to maintain drainage efficiency comparable to a new machine. For households with pets or those that frequently wash blankets or plush fabrics, the interval should be shortened to once a month.
In humid regions or areas with high usage, check the filter condition every three months to prevent mold growth.
